The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, held an online meeting with the IMF mission where they shared their views on the Albanian economy. Both Sejko and the IMF believed the Albanian economy and GDP performance will have gradual growth during 2021 and 2022. According to them, hopes are in the tourism sector that is expected to have a high contribution to this growth.
According to the INSTAT report, the largest increase in prices was recorded for pharmaceutical products, which are also the most demanded products currently on the market, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, prices in the production of tobacco products have decreased by 4.8%, followed by “Production of rubber and plastic products” by 4.0%, “Coke processing and refining of petroleum by-products” by 3, 1%.
Prime Minister Edi Rama declares that 38,400 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will arrive on Friday. While doctors and nurses and a part of the Albanian elderly have been vaccinated so far with the vaccines coming from Pfizer / Biotech, Rama writes that with the doses of AstraZeneca, the vaccination of teachers will start immediately. The AstraZeneca vaccine was developed by the University of Oxford. This vaccine is 63.9 percent effective against COVID-19, according to preliminary analysis, says the World Health Organization, which has recommended that this vaccine be used. This vaccine is administered in two doses. The WHO says the vaccine is more effective when the time interval from the first dose to the second dose is longer. The vaccine of Oxford University and the British pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca is recommended to be taken from the age of 18 and above.
Tirana International Airport (TIA) announces the start of direct flights to Dubai International Airport (DBX) and vice versa, starting March 28, 2021. Dubai-based airline Flydubai will operate twice a week, on Thursdays and on Sundays, with a Boeing 737. Flydubai will be the first Dubai-based airline to offer direct flights on this route.
Flights will depart from TIA at 13.30pm arriving at DXB at 21.55pm local time. The return flight departs at 9.35 am, local time, from Dubai and arrives at TIA at 12.30 pm.
